HOLDEN - Robert W. Bassett Sr., 72, of Wachusett Street died yesterday in The
Medical Center of Central Massachusetts-Hahnemann, after a long illnes
He leaves his wife, Marjorie E. (Clark) Bassett; three sons, Robert W. Bassett
Jr. of Suncook, N.H., and Arthur L. and David R. Bassett, both of Rutland;
five grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces. Born in Holden, he was the
son of Arthur L. and Mary B. (Dominitis) Bassett, and lived here all his life.
Mr. Bassett was head maintenance mechanic at O.S. Walker Co. in Worcester for
34 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Rabbit Breeders Association
and the Bee Keeper's Association, both in Worcester. Mr. Bassett graduated
from Worcester Boys Trade High School. He was a technical sergeant in the U.S.
Army during World War II, serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. Priva
funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be
in Grove Cemetery. Calling hours at Miles Funeral home, 1158 Main St., are 7 to
9 tonight. The family request that flowers be omitted. Memorial contributions
may be made instead to the American Cancer Society, 7 Oak St., Worcester

Mrs. Doris E. Bassett Lyman, 80
BARRE - Doris E. (Bassett) Lyman, 80, of 474 Valley Road, formerly of Holden, died yesterday at Memorial Hospital, Worcester, after a short illness.
Her husband, Clarence R. Lyman, died in 1988. She leaves a son, Raymond C. Lyman of Holden; two daughters, Tina J. Forget of Rochester, N.H., and Joyce R. Burnett of Barre, with whom she lived; a brother, Raymond Bassett of Atlantic City, N.J.; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a niece. She was born in Holden, daughter of Otto and Emma (Hachey) Bassett, and lived there most of her life before moving to Barre 10 years ago. She attended Holden High School.
Mrs. Lyman worked at Holden Nursing Home for 15 years before she retired.
The funeral will be held Wednesday from Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden, with a Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas a Beckett Church, Vernon Avenue, South Barre. Burial will be in the spring in Glen Valley Cemetery. Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home. Raymond O. Bassett
Bassett, Raymond O., of Atlantic City, died peacefully in his home Frid
evening. He attended several technical schools in the Army Air Force including
Wrights Aircraft Engine factory in Paterson. After the war, he restored many
antiques such as antique autos, old player pianos and other intricate musical
instruments. Surviving is his wife, Polly Bassett of Atlantic City; his
daughters: Marade Bassett of Nashville, Tennessee, and Betty Overlook of York,
Maine; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Graveside services
will be held at the Atlantic County Veterans Cemetery, Route NO. 50, Estell
Manor, at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4, 2003. Contributions may be made to the
American Legion of Northfield Post NO. 295, 232 Mill Road, Northfiel
