Notes	Evening Time-Republican, Marshalltown, Iowa, May 8, 1900 Died Of Smallpox Death From the Disease at Boone Boone, May 8. ? A report reached the city Monday that a little child of Ed Bass, of Dodge township, had died of smallbox. Another child is seriously ill and death may result. Mr. Bass has a family of nine children, but so far all of them have not been stricken with the disease. This is the first death reported in the county from smallpox since the contagion appeared, altho it is claimed that probably 200 or more have been afflicted with the disease. Fraser had been the hot-bed of the contagion and from there it has spread not only to all parts of the county but to many adjoin counties. He had been in ill health for some time with paralysis and death came as a welcome release from his sufferings. The funeral services were held from the Baptist Church at Mineral Ridge at 1:20 o'clock Sunday afternoon, conducted by the Reverend J.C. Crawford, of this city and attended by a large concourse of old time friends of the deceased. Burial was in the Mineral Ridge Cemetery. Edward Bass was born in Indiana 64 years ago. He came to Boone County in the early 1850's and had resided on a farm near Mineral Ridge until a few years ago when his wife died. Since that time he had made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Harden. He leaves to mourn his death; Jess, John and Mathew; and daughters; Mrs. Emma Harden; Mrs. Elizabeth McFarland; Mrs. Grace Osborn and Mrs. Nellie Evans; also five brothers; Mathew and John of Portland, Oregon.; William of South Dakota; and Thomas and Douglas of Mineral Ridge.
