David L. Bassett
David L. "Dave" Bassett, age 60, a resident of Naperville, IL since 1986, died on Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family after a brave battle with melanoma. He was born April 18, 1951 in Springfield, MO. Beloved husband of Gail Bassett (nee Dempsey), whom he married June 7, 1980; loving father of Alexander, Evan, Sarah and Rachel; devoted son of the late Bruce Bassett, Sr. and Marilyn Weissman (nee Holme). Dave was employed by Navistar International Truck & Engine for 32 years. The Memorial Visitation is on Friday, Aug. 5, 4 to 8 p.m. at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville. A celebration of Dave's life will take place Saturday, Aug. 6, 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment: Private. David L. "Dave" Bassett of Naperville since 1986 David L. "Dave" Bassett, 60, died on Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2011, at his home surrounded by his family after a brave battle with melanoma. He was born April 18, 1951, in Springfield, Mo. Dave was the beloved husband of Gail Bassett (nee Dempsey), whom he married June 7, 1980; loving father of Alexander David Bassett of Chicago, Evan Joseph Bassett of Baltimore, Md., Sarah Lyn Bassett of Minneapolis, Minn., and Rachel Victoria Bassett of Naperville; devoted son of the late Bruce Bassett Sr. and Marilyn Weissman (nee Holme); dear half-brother of Teak (Kate) Bassett, Chance (Arj) Ugarow and Tay Bassett; and fond nephew of Jean Tomezsko. Dave grew up in Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y., was a member of the Class of 1969 at Hackley School, and graduated from Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa. He was employed by Navistar International Truck & Engine for 32 years. Dave served as a Scout Master for Troop #133 in Naperville for many years. He coached Naperville Park District soccer and lacrosse, most recently at Benet Academy, Naperville Central High School and Waubonsie Valley High School. Dave also enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling and photography. The memorial visitation is on Friday, Aug. 5, 4 to 8 p.m. at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S.
