Mrs. J.E. Bassett Dies After Month's Illness
Funeral Will Be Held This Afternoon at 4:30 o'Clock at the Residence
Mrs. Katherine Stanhope Bassett, wife of James Edward Bassett, president of the Fayette National Bank, died early yesterday morning at the Good Samaritan hospital, after an illness of about a month. She was the daughter of W.F. and Nancy Bowman Stanhope and was born February 9, 1864. Mrs. Bassett was a member of the Second Presbyterian church, and was prominent in social affairs.
Mrs. Bassett is survived by her husband, two daughters, Katherine S. Bassett and Mrs. Irwin N. Lee; one son, Edward Bassett Jr., two sisters, Elizabeth B. Stanhope and Mrs. William R. Bowman, and one brother, J. Belfield Stanhope.
Funeral services will be held at the residence in Fayette park Wednesday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock, the Rev. Benjamin Jay Bush and the Rev. Ralph W. Owens officiating. Burial will follow in the family lot in the Lexington cemetery.
The pallbearers will be Joseph LeCompte, Roger Williams, J.T. Tunis, C.H. Berryman, John R. Allen, Joseph S. Botts, C.N. Manning, C. Norton Sharpe, J.W. Lancaster Jr., Dr. John W. Scott.
An expression adopted by the board of directors of the Fayette National bank follows:
The board of directors having learned of the great bereavement sustained by Mr. J.E. Bassett, the president of the bank, in the loss of his beloved wife who entered into rest this 16th day of May, 1922.
We desire to express to our friend and associate and to his family our heartfelt sympathy in this hour of their grief.
Resolved, as a slight manifestation of our affectionate regard that we attend in a body the funeral services of his devoted companion; that this expression be spread upon the records of the bank; that a copy be furnished to the family, and also to the local papers.
