Marshall Capers Bassett
Bassett, Marshall Capers, died February 5, 2000, at Jewish Hospital in Saint Louis, following a long illness, he was 86. Mr. Bassett left his career and the one he held dearest, farming and cattle breeding, to serve with the 'Seabees' during World War II in the South Pacific. After the war he continued his work as an industrial engineer with Boeing. Douglass and McDonnell-Douglas Corporations until his retirement in 1975. Across four decades, Mr. Bassett enjoyed hunting and horseback riding. In mid-life the became an avid golfer and gardener. Throughout the span of his entire life he was guided by his faith and spirituality. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bella Vista and a regular visitor of St. John's United Methodist Church of St. Louis. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday at Callison-Lough Funeral Home, 605 W. Central, Bentonville. The funeral will be at 10 a.m., Thursday. Burial will be Benton County Memorial Park. Mr. Bassett was preceded in death by his son, Jim Bassett and his first wife, Nancy A. Bassett; among survivors are his wife, Zantha Bassett and daughter, Marshal Shepley, both of St. Louis, Missouri; nieces and nephews; a stepdaughter, Charlene Gerard of Williamsburg, Virginia; and four stepgrandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
