Mrs. Alice Bassett Miller celebrated her 90th birthday not long ago in Elgin, Ill., where she moved with her husband, the late Joseph C. Miller, in 1908. Mrs. Miller was born in Wainscott in 1869, one of a family of eight children, of whom a brother, William Bassett, is still living in Amagansett.
Mrs. Miller?s niece, Mrs. Cora Bassett Sweeting, lives in Amagansett. The birthday was celebrated with a family dinner party at the home of a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Lillian Miller, on Sherman Avenue, Elgin. Mrs. Miller makes her home with her daughter, Mrs. Thomas Gabler, at 412 Raymond St.
Mrs. Miller?s childhood was spent in Sag Harbor, where she married Joseph C. Miller on Aug. 29, 1894. The couple had four children, Clifford R., who died in 1944, Marjorie and Marian, who died in infancy, and Dorothy, now Mrs. Gabler. Mr. Miller died in May, 1940. There are eight grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
She a member of Immanuel Baptist Church of Elgin, and likes to read, and enjoys family and friends.
