Robert G. Bassett, age 64 years, died April 27, 2008. He was born in San Jose, CA on November 9, 1943 to George Robert and Marjorie (White) Bassett. He was retired from General Motors-Powertrain in Bay City. Bob served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed bowling, motorcycle riding and the casino. He is survived by his wife, the former Mary McKee, whom he married June 17, 1967. He also leaves his mother, Marjorie Bassett; three brothers-in-law: Bob (Doris) McKee, Dennis (Darlene) McKee and Mike (Helen) McKee; two sisters-in-law, Jody (Jeff) Nashatka and Tami (Ron) Butterfield and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, George R. Bassett; a brother, Ronald Bassett; a special aunt and uncle, Virginia and Max Bloom; his mother-in-0law, Jenny Bayliss; and a brother-in-law, Gary McKee. They Funeral Liturgy will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Penzien-Steele Funeral Home. Sister Joanne Toohey will preside. The Rite of Committal will follow at Elm Lawn Cemetery with Military Rites by the Bay County Veterans Council. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Lung Association or Visiting Nurses Services of Michigan. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. “The family wishes to offer a special thanks to Bay Regional Medical Center 3 East and 4 West, to Dr. Chavali and Dr. Struble, to Bay Medical Care Facility 1 East and the Therapy Dept. and to Visiting Nurse Services of Michigan, especially Amy and to Dr. Parmer.
