Truman Bassett, 42, of 408 Sixth Avenue, Attalia, passed away at a local hospital Sunday night at 9:15 o?clock, after a short illness. Tuesday morning the funeral cortege left the funeral home at 11 o?clock for Mt. Tabor, 3 miles east of Hartselle, where funeral services were conducted. The Rev. C.C. Turner, pastor of the Methodist Church, of Attalla, and the Rev. W.C. Kirk, pastor of the Baptist Church, of Attalla, officiated. Interment was in the churchyard cemetery with Woodliff directing. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Thelma Sparkman Bassett, of Attala; two daughters, Misses Sarah Louise and Martha Bassett, of Attalla; the father, J.M. Bassett, of Blytheville, Ark., seven brothers, Holmes Bassett, of Selma; D.T. Bassett, Talladega; Lacy Bassett, Blytheville, Ark.; Darvi Bassett, Fort Blanding, Fla.; Naman Bassett, U.S. Marines, San Deigo, Calif.; Vernon Bassett, Blytheville, Ark.; Morgan Bassett, Blytheville, Ark.; four sisters, Mrs. Johnie Mayo, Wadley, Mrs. Willie Mae Cotney, Cragford; Mrs. Fore Hester, Shawmut, and Miss Louise Bassett, of Wadley. Mr. Bassett was born in Clay County, Alabama, and was formerly a resident of Anniston and Gadsden. He had resided in Attala for the past year. He had been with the Alabama Power Company for 23 years, serving as general foreman for the construction department. Gadsden Times (Monday). The deceased was a former resident of Fort Payne.
