  Notes	Mobile Register, October 24, 2000 Vernon Bassett Sr. Vernon Bassett Sr., a native of Clay County and a longtime resident of Eight Mile, died Friday at a local hospital. He was 74. Survivors include his wife, Stella F. Bassett; nine children, Vernon M. Bassett and James “Ray” Bassett, both of Opelika, Gloria Dean Peckham of Pennington, Belinda Ruth Havard and Rebecca Ruth Henry, both of Mobile, Paula Faye Larson of Redmond, Ore., Rodney C. “Big Rodney” Bassett of Grady, Ala., Racheael Dianne Cobb of Citronelle and Rodney Eugene Hill of Eight Mile; three sisters; a brother; 26 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren. Services are set for 2 p.m. today at Serenity Funeral Home, with burial in the Wall of Honor at Serenity Memorial Gardens.
