Fulton Times, 1889 The body of Lorenzo Bassett, the Hannibal farmer, who disappeared early in December, was found floating in the river at Oswego on Friday last. The body was badly decomposed but he clothing corresponded in every particular. Dr. L. C. Curtis of this village who had fixed the teeth of Bassett went to Oswego Saturday to ascertain whether it was his body or not. He was thoroughly convinced that it was. The body was taken to Hannibal for burial. ******** The Gazette and Farmers Journal, May 9, 1889 Hannibal The body of Lorenzo Bassett has been discovered in the water at Oswego. It will be remembered that Mr. Bassett left his home in Hannibal last October, in company with other neighbors going to Oswego. While there Mr. Bassett became intoxicated, and was said to have fallen from his carriage and received severe bruises about the head. He was seen about the city late in the day, but finally disappeared and no trace of him has been had till the present discovery. His remains were interred in Hannibal cemetery, last Saturday.
