Rachel Bassett
Rachel Pearl Bassett, 96, of Palm Bay, Florida, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 1, 2011.
She is survived by daughter-in-law, Judith A. Bassett; grandsons, Robert and his wife, Christine, and Brian and his wife, Courtney; six great-grandchildren; and nieces, Beth Roll Smith and Meg Roll Leister.
She was predeceased by her husband, Alexander "Wally" Robert Bassett; her son, Robert Alexander Bassett; and her brother, Arthur Roll.
Born in Orange, NJ, Mrs. Bassett raised her family in Whippany, NJ, before moving to Florida in 1979. She met her husband when they were both competitive roller-skaters. During World War II, Mrs. Bassett worked on an assembly line supporting the war effort. She later assisted New Jersey State Assemblyman, Edward Vreeland, following a career in real estate.
Mrs. Bassett enjoyed the outdoors and swam into her 80's. One of her favorite pastimes was synchronized swimming with her best friend, Elsie Weiss. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she loved being with her family.
A service was held in her honor at Bethesda Baptist Church.
