Mr. T. Bassett, Braunton
Deep regret has been expressed at the passing of Mr. Thomas Bassett, of ?Uprights,? South-street, Braunton, which took place in the North Devon Infirmary. Deceased, well known and highly respected, was a retired master mariner. In addition, prior to his illness he took a keen interest in music and was an active member of the former Braunton String Orchestra which used to play under the conductorship of Mr. J. Slee. He was also a valued supporter of the Braunton Football Club. In addition to the widow he leaves two sons, Messrs. Thomas and John Bassett, both serving in the R.A.F.
The funeral took place at Braunton Congregational Church. Rev. J. Westley Green officiated.
The immediate mourners were Mr. T. Bassett (son), Mrs. Frank Mitchell (sister-in-law), Mr. C.P. Mock (brother-in-law), Mrs. C.P. Mock (sister-in-law), Mr. Bert Mock (brother-in-law), Mrs. Bert Mock (sister-in-law), Mr. and Mrs. George Mock (nephew and niece), Mrs. A. Mullen and Mr. Jack Bassett (cousins). The widow and Mrs. T. Bassett, jun. were unable to be present through indisposition. Mr. John Bassett (son) is serving overseas.
The bearers were Capt. W. Parkhouse, Capt. A. Chugg, Messrs. J. Bradford, H. Ellis, R. Braund and T. H. Pedrick. There was a number of sympathisers present.
