Catherine Bassett (Picture included)
Catherine Rose (Harkins) Masseur Bassett, 97, of Nashua, NH, formerly of New York, passed away peacefully at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH on Monday July 25, 2011.
Catherine was born in Brooklyn, NY, May 25, 1914, the daughter of the late Thomas Harkins and Lillian (Pfeiffer) Harkins.
Catherine Bassett worked for the NY Telephone Company for over 40 years. She was a dedicated employee who loved her job. After the death of her first husband, she married John Bassett, who had 15 children. After John’s death in 1987, she left New York, spending her winters in Arizona up until the age of 90 and spending her summers with her son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren in NH. She was a devoted and loving grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to many and will be greatly missed.
In addition to her parents, Catherine is predeceased by her husband, John Bassett; her first husband, Gerard J. Masseur; a son, Jerry Masseur and a daughter-in-law, Trudi Masseur.
Family members include three grandchildren, Jackie Masseur and Mike Lesko of Nashua, Lisa Schmalz and her husband Steve of Hollis and Jerry Masseur and his wife Amy of Nashua; nine great grandchildren, Craig, Sara, and Tom Schmalz of Hollis; Gabrielle, Griffin, Brad, and Adam Masseur of Nashua; Kate and Emily Polychronopoulos of Nashua and their father Toby Polychronopoulos.
There will be no visiting hours. A graveside service for the family will be held at a later date at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Queens, NY. The Zis-Sweeney Funeral Home, 26 Kinsley Street, Nashua, NH 03060 is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the Community Hospice House, 210 Naticook Drive, Merrimack NH 03054. The staff at the Community Hospice House will be remembered for their loving care and dedication to Catherine and our family during her last days.
