(1) Frank H. Bassett, Jr., Wheeling, Mo. Born February 14, 1897, at Wheeling, Mo. Son of Frank H. and Alice S. Bassett. Enlisted in the Navy at Kansas City, Mo., July 22, 1918, and was sent to Camp Farragut, Great Lakes Naval Training Station, Chicago, Ill., for training, having the rank of Fireman, third class, in Company 425, 9th Regiment. About a month later was transferred to Company S, Regiment 2N at Camp Dewey, Great Lakes Naval Training Station and about September 10 was sent to the hospital with the Spanish Influenza which later developed into bronchial pneumonia which necessitated an operation from which he died October 11, 1918. The body was brought to the home of his parents at Wheeling, Mo., and interment in the family lot in South Wheeling Cemetery.

Frank H. Bassett, Jr., the son of Frank H. and Alice S. Bassett who enlisted in the Navy, died following an operation October 11, 1918. He became ill of bronchial pneumonia at the Great Lakes Naval Training Station, Chicago. He is buried in the South Wheeling Cemetery.

The Bassett Funeral. The funeral of the late Frank Bassett Jr., who was a victim of pneumonia following a severe attack of the influenza, was held at the Christian church in Wheeling Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock, Rev. W S. Nay of this city conducting the services. Burial was made in the Wheeling cemetery. The high esteem in which young Bassett was held by his young friends and neighbors was indicated by the immense crowd which attended the funeral services. He had been in naval training at the Great Lakes station. Besides his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bassett, he is survived by a sister, Mrs. [Peach] Herron of St. Joseph and three brothers, Will of Chula, Fred, of Wheeling and Hod Bassett who is with the American forces in France.
