Kathleen Bassett (picture included)
Kathleen Mary Bassett passed away Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2006. Kathleen was born in Eaton County on Aug. 31, 1915 to J. Ervin and Abigail Starr. She was a 1935 graduate of Grand Ledge High School.
Through the years she worked in a number of retail stores including Mills Dry Goods, Bassett & McCully Supply Co., FN Arbaugh, and JW Knapp. She also was employed at the Loan and Deposit State Bank in Grand Ledge.
She devoted her life to her husband, Earnest Bassett, whom she married on Christmas Eve of 1938, her family, and her church. She was a long-time resident of Delta Mills, a charter member of St. Gerard Parish, and was active in and past president of Mother of Divine Grace Circle.
In recent years, Kathleen was a member of St. Michael Parish. Kathleen is survived by her beloved brothers Ervin (Kay) Starr, Alvin Starr, Ron (Cappi) Starr, brother-in-law Rex McCully, 14 nieces and nephews, 21 great nieces and nephews, and four great-great nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Ervin and Abigail Starr, her husband Earnest, and her sister Roberta McCully, and sister-in-law, Marian Starr. The Funeral Mass was held Friday, Oct. 6, at St. Michael Catholic Church, Grand Ledge with The Rev. Fr. James Eisele, celebrant. Interment to follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Grand Ledge.
