Gordon Taylor officiating. Burial was at Forrester's Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery. Mr. Bassett died suddenly on Saturday, Oct. 20, at Randolph Medical Center. A lifelong Wadley resident, Mr. Bassett was born July 20, 1955, son of James Samuel and Ruth Taylor Bassett. He was a member of Center Chapel Baptist Church and had worked as a carpenter. He was preceded in death by his father, James Bassett; and grandparents Vera and Wood Bassett and Henry and Bessie Taylor. Survivors include his wife, Marie Ray Bassett of Wadley; his mother, Ruth Bassett of Wadley; one daughter, Summer Bassett of Wadley, a stepdaughter, Brandy McDaniel of Daviston; a stepson, Jeff Mann of Wadley; two brothers Malcolm Bassett of Wadley and Jason Bassett of Franklin, Ga.; and four grandchildren. Pallbearers were Chan Bassett, Colby McDaniel, David McDaniel, Rob Rawls, David Farr, Bobby Tillis, Roger Albright and Wayne Gay. Arrangements were by Quattlebaum Funeral Home, Roanoke.
