Tim Bassett and Ryan Bassett were welcomed into the Piedmont Chapter at the December Meeting. Ryan will be a Junior Member until his eighteenth birthday. They joined the SAR as descendants of Patriot Richard William Bassett who served as a Dragoon in Lee’s Legion Maryland Corp. Their applications were the first in the line to claim Richard William Bassett as a Patriot Ancestor. In addition to his ancestor Richard William Bassett, Tim is currently working on documenting three other ancestors who served in the American Revolution. These are James Langley who served in Virginia, James Doster and Edward Richardson both of who served in North Carolina.
Tim is originally from Childersburg, Alabama, and he graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in Environmental Sciences. He is married to Melissa whom he met while they were students at the University.
They reside in Cumming, eorgia with their two children Ryan and Ashley. Ryan is a junior at South Forsyth High School, where he participates in the football program playing both on the Junior Varsity and Varsity squads. Ashley is in the eighth grade, is very active in school and also competes nationally in Irish Dancing.
Tim is employed by Waste management as the Atlanta area Environmental Protection Manager overseeing the environmental compliance of 21 sit3es around the metro area.
Tim and Ryan look forward to being active in the Piedmont Chapter.

LeRoy Bassett Jr. became a member of the Piedmont Chapter as a surprise Christmas gift from his son and grandson who are current members of the chapter. The three generations of the Bassett family joined the SAR as descendants of Patriot Richard William Bassett who served as a Dragoon in Lee’s Legion. Their applications were the first in their line to claim Richard William Bassett as a Patriot Ancestor.
LeRoy has been married to his high school sweetheart, Frankie Helms Bassett, for over 50 years. They have two children: Tim Bassett of Cumming, Ga. And Tamera Bassett Lane of Birmingham, Al. He is also the proud grandfather of four grandchildren: Ryan and Ashley Bassett, and Hunter and Heath Payant.
After serving in the United States Air Force, LeRoy attended the Horn School of Drafting and design, Jefferson State College, and University of Alabama in Birmingham where he studied Electrical Engineering. After college, he worked for the Southern Company Nuclear Division until he retired in 2004 after 36 years of service. They currently reside in Birmingham, Alabama, where they are enjoying an active retirement.
