Carol Jean Bassett
Carol Jean Bassett, 54, surrounded by her family and friends, died at her home in Troy Wednesday, May 18, 2005. She was the daughter of Eleanor Bassett and the late Ewell Bassett of Troy. Survivors include her sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Robert Cary of Pensacola, Fl, her brother Fred Bassett of Montgomery, her brother Bob Bassett of Troy, and her nieces, Jenni Bassett of Boise, Idaho and Hilary Bassett of Troy. Carol will be missed by her loving family, the many friends she has treasured over the years, and her co-workers at the Pike County Helath Department, where she worked as an R.N. until she retired in March of 2004 after 25 years of public health service. She will be remembered for her love of her family, her interest in reaching out to others through opening her heart and home, her dedication to her profession of providing health care to those in need, her quick wit, along with her ease of sharing her thoughts and wisdom, and her happy outgoing personality. Visitation will be held at Dillard Funeral Home in Troy on Thursday, May 29, 2005 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held at the Chapel of Dillard Funeral Home in Troy on Friday, May 20, 2005 at 11:00 am, with Dr. Ellis Bush officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hills Memorial Park in Troy. The pallbearers will be Ernie Cope, Stan Cope, Steve Fussell, Marvin Bassett, Richard Bassett and Mike Rose. The family would like to express their appreciation to the Wiregrass-Hospice nurses and staff for their excellent care and attention. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to the Child Advocacy Center, 188 West Orange Stree, Troy, AL 36081, an organization that will carry on Carol's mission of serving others.
