Robert (Bob) Bruce Bassett
Robert (Bob) Bruce Bassett, Age 55, a resident of Troy, Ala. died Wednesday morning, Feb. 25, 2009, in an automobile accident. He is survived by his daughter, Hilary Bassett of Troy, his mother, Eleanor Bassett of Troy, brother, Fred Bassett, of Montgomery, his sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Robert Cary of Troy, two nieces, Jennifer Bassett of Boise, Idaho, and Susan Windley of Kingstowne,Va., his special friend, Anne Givens and a number of other relatives.
He is also survived by a multitude of close friends.
He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Mickie Bassett, his father, Ewell Bassett, and his sister, Carol Bassett.
A memorial service will be held at Dillard Funeral in Troy, at 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 27, 2009 with Dr. Ellis Bush officiating.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009 from 5-7 p.m. at Dillard Funeral Home in Troy.

Troy Man killed in wreck

?Did you ever go fishing on a bright, sunny day?? was just the beginning of a little tune Eleanor Bassett and her son Bobby would sing each time they went fishing.
Now, it?s a tune she and Bobby will sing no more.
Early Wednesday morning Robert (Bobby) Bassett, 55, of Troy, was reported the likely victim of a fatal crash on U.S. 231.
?Based on circumstances and the vehicle involved in the wreck, tentative ID has been made as Mr. Bassett,? said Pike County Coroner Jerry Williams.
Williams said since Bassett was the victim of a fire, the body was transported to the Department of Forensic Sciences for positive identification and final results should be released in within a few days.
Around midnight Wednesday, Bassett?s Ford Aerostar van ran off the road, crashed and caught on fire, said Sgt. Kevin Cook, public information officer for Alabama State Troopers.
?The vehicle was traveling above the posted speed limit, ran off the road, crashed and caught on fire,? Cook said.
The wreck occurred about three miles north of Troy in front of the Pioneer Village. Cook said the incident is still under investigation, but the initial investigation reveals speeding was the cause.
Bassett, a life-long Troy resident, had been employed for Waley Construction for more than 30 years.
He was the project manager for Waley and had been working to build an elementary school and a YMCA in Montgomery.
?He was very dedicated to his work,? said Robert Cary, Bassett?s brother-in-law.
Eleanor Bassett said Bobby, who was her youngest son, was family-oriented and loved spending time outdoors fishing, hunting and attending sporting events.
?He took his mother to all the ball games, basketball, baseball, football,? Eleanor Bassett said. ?He was a person that enjoyed every day of his life.?
But for the Bassett family, this is not the first lost they?ve endured.
?I had an infant son that died, and he lost a sister in 2005,? Eleanor said. ?This is a double tragedy for his family, but we have faith in God, and he will take us through it.?
Bassett?s funeral will be held at Dillard Funeral Home at 1 p.m. Friday. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today.
