Donald Max Bassett
Donald Max Bassett, 59, died Tuesday evening, Oct. 2, 2001, in his home after a sudden illness. Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Monticello. Burial: church cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Firday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly; three children, Annette Whitt of Somerville, W.Va., Donald Jr. (Jennifer) of Woodland Park, Colo, and LaNina Gullet of Reno, Nev.; a stepson, Christopher Morgan of Monticello; his mother, Lura Bassett of Brush, Colo.; and a half sister, Bonnie (Otto) Meyer of Castle Rock, Colo.
Donald Max Bassett was born Sept. 14, 1942, in Brush, Colo., the son of Joseph and Lura Sharp Bassett. Donald received his education in the Brush schools, where he graduated in 1959. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving for 26 years. Don served in Vietnam and in military intelligence and with the NSA. He retired from the Army in 1984. Donald then started a career as a truck driver. He married Beverly Bohiken on Aug. 29, 1992, at Hope Lutheran Church, Aurora, Colo. The couple have lived in Monticello since their marriage. Since February 1996, Don had been employed by Gordon Civic Trucking. A memorial fund has been established.
