Thomas Jackson Bassett

Thomas Jackson ?Jack? Bassett, a beloved brother, father, grandfather, and devoted friend, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2024, at the age of 79. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Jack is survived by his son, Ian Bassett, daughter-in-law, Carolyn Bassett, his grandson, Jesse Bassett, his sister, Linda Hughey and his half-sister Janet Wills. He was preceded in death by his parents Marion Bassett and Ruth Bassett and his brother Marion Bassett, Jr.. Jack?s enduring spirit will live on through his family and the many lives he touched.
A proud military veteran, Jack volunteered to serve his country during the Vietnam War, where he served with the Army 1st Calvary Division. After his military service, Jack graduated from Florida State University with a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management. Jack went on to work for the Florida Division of Blind Services, dedicating himself to helping others and making a positive difference in his community. He continued that tradition in his most recent job of working with underserved communities providing food assistance through the US Census Bureau.
An avid music lover, Jack had a passion for the guitar and a deep appreciation for its ability to connect people. He shared this love by starting a guitar group at The Tallahassee Senior Center, where he inspired and brought joy to others through teaching and playing music. His contributions to his community and his dedication to service will not be forgotten.
A memorial service will be held at the Tallahassee National Cemetery on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, AT 2:00 pm, with military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to The Florida State University Dedman College of Hospitality General Scholarship Fund (F01064), supporting students in pursuit of careers in the hospitality industry.
Jack?s love for his family, his country, and his community will remain in the hearts of all who knew him. He had a warm heart, a generous spirit, and a unique ability to bring people together with his humor, kindness, and the music he so dearly loved.
