In Memory of Marion E. Bassett
April 24, 1942 – April 21, 2012
Marion E. Bassett, Jr., 69, of LaGrange, affectionately known as 'The Godfather' died Saturday, April 21, 2012 at his home.
Marion was born April 24, 1942 in Roanoke, AL. He was Baptist by faith. Marion owned and operated Hillside Tavern for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion Eugene Bassett, Sr., and Ruth Fincher Bassett; and by his special companion, Nancy Brand.
Survivors include his daughters, Karen and Robin Cardwell of LaGrange and Stephanie and Jeff Perry of Roanoke; grandchildren, Amber Perry, Jeffery 'Bobo' and Stephanie 'Bebe' Perry of LaGrange, and Matthew Perry of Roanoke; a sister, Linda Hughey of Montgomery, AL; a brother, Jack Basssett of Tallahassee, FL; great-grandchildren, Alexus, Jake, and Jaxon Perry and Seth and Addyson Arnett; and his ex-wife and friend, Janice Bassett.
His wish was to have no memorial service and those desiring may contribute to the Disabled American Veterans (www.dav.org) in memory of Marion E. Bassett, Jr.
