Jim Bassett
Jim Bassett, a longtime resident of Dalton, passed away on Feb. 27, 2015, in Douglasville.
Jim taught in Dalton Public Schools for 30 years, spending those years at Fort Hill Junior High School and Dalton Junior High School.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Jean; and his son, Wayne Bassett.
He is survived by a daughter, Bonnie Robinson of Port St. Joe, Fla., and a son, Bruce Bassett of Douglas. Jim had six grandchildren, Katie Robinson, Abbie Robinson, Julie Robinson, Matthew Bassett, Suzanna Bassett and Alina Bassett; one brother, Larry Bassett of Fayetteville, Ark.
Jim moved to Douglasville 20 years ago to be closer to his children and grandchildren and was an inspiration to so many people, including the countless number of students that he touched during his long teaching career.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Douglasville.
Burial will be on Thursday at the National Cemetery in Chattanooga.
