- UNION TREASURER LONNIE BASSETT, 62

Lonnie A. Bassett, secretary-treasurer of the Sheet Metal Workers' International Association, AFL-CIO, died in New York City of a heart attack, the union said. He was 62.
Mr. Bassett died Saturday on his return from Denmark, where he was a delegate to the International Metalworkers' Federation, the union said Sunday. Born April 26, 1927, in Alabama, Mr. Bassett joined the Washington-based sheet metal workers' international office in 1961. He was director of the union's organizing from 1970 to 1985, when he was appointed secretary-treasurer.
He is survived by his wife, Marie; his children Donald, Johnnie, Marie Elaine Bassett Snow, and Lonna Gwen Bassett; three brothers; two sisters; and nine grandchildren.

Lonnie A. Bassett died Saturday, June 24, 1989, in New York City. He was 62, and a native of Alabama. He was secretary/treasurer of Sheet Metal Workers International Association, AFL-CIO, having joined the office in 1961 serving as international organizer and director of organizing from 1970-85. Beall-Evans Funeral Home, Bowie, MD., in charge of arrangements. Burial in Lakemont Cemetery, Davidsonville, Md. Survived by wife, Marie Bassett; two sons, Donald and Johnnie Bassett; two daughters, Marie Elaine Snow and Lonna Gwenn Bassett; three brothers, Charles, George and John Bassett; two sisters, Dorothy Hall and Juanita Nicholson; and nine grandchildren. He was president of Sheet Metal Workers Local 21 in Baton Rouge 1956-57, and president and organizing director of Metal Trades Council of Baton Rouge.
