SHREVEPORT, LA – Services for Emma Birdsong Bassett, 100 years old, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2005 at North Highlands United Methodist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Sandra Huber. Interment will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Snow Hill Cemetery, near Daingerfield, TX. The family invites and will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 7, 2005 at Rose-Neath Marshall Street Funeral Home. Mrs. Bassett was born December 19, 1904 in Cason, TX and went to be with her Lord Sunday, June 5, 2005 at her residence. She was an active member of North Highlands United Methodist Church until her health failed six months ago. Mrs. Bassett was an avid sports fan, read Sports Illustrated faithfully and spent her leisure time watching television with no sound because “She knew what was happening”. She kept the family informed on all current events. Of all of her roles, none was more important than being a special mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother and friend. All who knew her will miss her dearly. Her husband, Louie Bassett and granddaughter, Anne Markwith preceded her in death. Survivors are her daughter, Gloria McCain of Shreveport, LA; grandsons, Michael McCain and wife, Jill of Chicago, IL, Mark McCain of Natchitoches, LA and William McCain and wife, Teresa of Kingston, GA; great grandchildren, Sean, Erin, Conner, Adam and Gavin McCain and Christ Smelley; and great-great grandsons, Jack, and Will McCain. Memorials may be made to North Highlands United Methodist Church or to the charity of the donor’s choice. Rose-Neath Funeral Home. Marshall St. Chapel, 222-0348
