- Josephine had five sisters and six brothers. She was a kind and loving wife and mother, always ready to help someone in need. She was a faithful Baptist, a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, and served as Church Clerk for many years. Although the Church is gone, Ms. Josie's minutes and other records of the Church are filed with the Limestone County Historical Society.

MRS. L.E. BASSETT Succumbs Thursday to Long Illness
Final rites for Mrs. Josephine L. Bassett were held last Friday afternoon at the Central Baptist Church in Thornton. She passed away in Dr. Cox's Hospital in Groesbeck on Thursday, March 31, after an illness of some two years with a heart ailment.
Rev. T.E. Caldwell and Rev. Ben L. Stohler officiated at the services. Interment was in the Thorntown Cemetery with Fisher and Nance in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Bassett was born march 7, 1874 in Leon County, Daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Richardson. In 1895 she was married to L.E. Bassett in Thornton. He preceded her in death in 1955.
She had lived at two addresses since her marriage, Route 2, Thornton, and Route 3, Groesbeck. She was a member of the Baptist Church and Woodman circle, always a devoted wife and mother, faithful as a Christian and truly a good neighbor.
She is survived by the following children: Carl Bassett, Dallas; John Leslie Bassett, Houston; Mrs. Vera Beard and Mrs. Alton Shelton, Groesbeck, and the following grandchildren, Logan Bassett, Dallas, Joene Herring, of Waco, Mildred Hetzel, Cincinnati, Ohio, Garnell Beard, Groesbeck, Geneva Shepard, Waco, Doris Willard, Houston, Josie Plummer, Groesbeck, and Lucille Lehmann of Conroe, James A. Shelton of Spring, Robbie Sue Little of Tyler, and Della Cook, Lenelle West, Glenn Bassett, Wayne Bassett, and Perry Bassett of Houston. She is also survived by 22 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were her grandsons, Garnel Beard, Logan Bassett, Jas. Shelton, Glenn Bassett, Wayne and Perry Bassett.
