Mr. and Mrs. Bassett Honored on Anniversary (includes picture)
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bassett of Langdale, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Sunday, September 27, in the club room of the Langdale Gymnasium, with the couple’s three children as hosts for the occasion.
The children are Howard Bassett of Fairfax, Earl Bassett of Milton, Fla., and Mrs. Herman Newman of Carrollton, Ga. Mr. and Mrs. Bassett have seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Bassett is the former Miss Maudie Mae Roberts of Tallassee, Ala. She is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Will Roberts of Elmore County. Mr. Bassett is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Monroe Bassett of Clay County.
The couple was married in West Point on September 25, 1920, and moved to Shawmut. They moved to Langdale in 1921.
The refreshment table was covered with a gold cloth overlaid with a white lace cloth. Centering the table was a three-tiered anniversary cake topped with a gold wreath and centered with the numbers “50”. Another table was centered with a beautiful arrangement of carnations, mums and yellow candles in an eperging arrangement.
Mrs. Michael Holston of Smyrna, Ga., a granddaughter of the couple, served the cake. She was assisted by Mrs. Charles Ingram, a friend of the family. Mrs. Earl Bassett, daughter-in-law, served punch, assisted by Mrs. Earnest Walker, a friend of the family. Mrs. Patty Young, another granddaughter, registered the guests.
Mrs. Howard Bassett, a daughter-in-law, displayed the gifts.
Mrs. Bassett wore for the occasion a beige bonded crepe dress, and a yellow carnation corsage was pinned at her shoulder.
