Death Of Mrs. J.B. Bassett
Philadelphia, June 11 ? Mrs. James B. Bassett, wife of a former Neshoba county tax assessor, passed away at her home here, following an illness of several years. Mrs. Bassett had been an invalid for a number of years, being confined to her bed.
She was a member of a family prominent in Neshoba county and was born and reared near Union, in the southern part of the county. Her parents, Thomas and Lucy Gully, deceased, were among the first citizens of that section. The Bassett family moved to this city seven years ago, where they have since resided. She was a member of the Baptist church in Philadelphia.
Mrs. Bassett is survived by her husband, J.B. Bassett, four daughters, Mrs. Thelma Bassett Spivey, Coldwater, Mrs. Etoile Bassett Woodruff, Hattiesburg, Mrs. Grace Bassett Scanlon, Philadelphia, and Miss Mary Ellen Bassett, of this city; four sons, Clifton and William Bassett, Philadelphia, and Tommie Bassett, San Diego, Calif., and Gully Bassett, Long Beach, Calif.; three brothers, T.N. Gully and E.C. Gully, Neshoba and J.H. Gully, Summerfield, La.
Funeral services, conducted by Rev. R.L. Breland, Coffeeville, assisted by Rev. D.A. McCall of this city, were held from the Neshoba Baptist church, with burial following in the cemetery there.
