In Loving Memory of Nick Bassett
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Nick, who left us on April 30th 2025. Born on April 26, 1957, Nick lived a life filled with love, kindness, and generosity.
Nick was born in Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire, England to Pamala and Donald Bassett, and grew up with his sister Anita. The family moved to Poole, Dorset, England. Poole is known for its large natural harbor and sandy beaches. Nick enjoyed learning to sail at the local sailing club.
After graduating from secondary school, Nick pursued higher education at Queen Mary College, University of London with 1st Class Honors. Nick earning a degree in Bachelor of Science in Geography (Physical Geography and Geology). Next, he completed a Master of Science (MSc), Geophysics, Diploma of Membership of the Imperial College DIC, Imperial College, University of London. Nick had a distinguished career for over 40 years as a Production and Exploration Geophysicist, where he made significant contributions to the oil and gas industry. Nick was well known in the industry for having experience and success in the Gulf of Mexico, Azerbaijan ? South Caspian Sea, Russian Arctic ? Timan Pechora, China ? South, East China Seas, and East Africa ? Tertiary Rift Plays in Samalia, Kenya and Burundi.
Nick married Debra Christianson in 1995, and together they raised Jamie. Nick was a devoted Parent. He was there for Jamie through the swimming meets, soccer matches, Ice Skating competitions, and Softball. As Jamie explored the previous activities, Nick shared his love of fishing, flying, and horses with Jamie. Finally, Jamie fell in love with Horses. Nick was there at every Hunter Jumper competition in Jamie's High School years. Later when Jamie was in college, Nick traveled to her team events.
Nick had always supported Jamie in her endeavors. He cheered her on when she received her white coat in Veterinary College. He was there in spirt when Jamie got her DVM from Commings College of Veterinary Medicine.
Besides being Jamie's cheerleader, Nick's other hobby was gliding. He reentered the sport after retirement. The gliding clubs were a way for Nick to get out of the house and interact with people. Nick felt accomplished when flying and enjoyed the quiet.
Nick is preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Pamela Bassett. He is survived by Debra (wife), Jamie and Edward (daughter and son-in-law), Anita and Mick Halloran (Sister and brother-in-law).
