- In Memory of Wilma Ruth Smith Bassett

Wilma Ruth Smith Bassett, age 86 of Albion, IL passed from this life to the next on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at Meadowood Nursing Home in Grayville, IL.
Wilma was born in Albion to Vernon A. and Buelah (Medler) Michels on August 24, 1930.
She married Valgene Smith in 1951 and their three sons became her pride and joy. Later, in 1984 she married Norman Bassett.
She was a member of the Olive Congregational Church and also worshipped for many years at the First Baptist Church of Albion, where she was active in the Senior Adult Group.
Wilma had several interests which included: crocheting, quilting and especially flower gardening. She worked at Rest Haven Manor for many years and finished her working career at Champion Lab.
Wilmas' hearts desire was to learn to drive a car, and at the age of 65, her son Steve, bravely taught her, and she cherished her car "Goldie"!
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Norman, son, Kenneth Smith, infant daughter Valerie Kaye Smith , granddaughter, Kelcie Smith, two stepchildren: Leonard Bassett and Betty Jo McPeak and one step-grandson, Christopher McPeak.
She is survived by her two sons, Steve (Cathy) Smith of Albion, and Tom (Becky) Smith of West Salem, IL, one step daughter, Brenda York of Omaha, IL, 7 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 11 step-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2017 from 9AM to 10AM at Ingram Funeral Home in Albion.
Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10AM, with burial to follow at Graceland Cemetery, Albion.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Senior Adult Ministry Fund.
Visitation and Funeral guests are asked to please dress casually.
