Mary Stupenti Besett, 69 of Memphis
Mary S. Besett, Court Clerk, Dies
Crittenden County Circuit Court Clerk Mary Stupenti Besett died at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis Friday. She was 69.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in West Memphis, where she was a communicant, with burial in Crittenden Memorial Park in Marion, Ark. Roller-Citizens Funeral Home of West Memphis has charge.
Mrs. Besett, of Marion, was first elected clerk in 1971. She was re-elected last Nov. 3.
Mrs. Besett, a director of the Arkansas Circuit Clerks Association, also served as recorder of deeds and clerk of the chancery and juvenile courts, handling child support payments.
Before becoming circuit clerk, she worked as a legal secretary and as deputy clerk. She was a member of Altrusa Club and Infant of Prague Guild.
Mrs. Besett leaves two daughters, Gail Besett of Memphis and Mary McDougal of West Memphis; a son, Howard 'Bud' Besett of Rogers, Ark.; a sister, Dorothy Hemphill of Memphis; a brother, Aldo Stupenti of Marion, and four grandchildren. The family requests that any memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association.
