Richard Bass, Jr., 79, formerly of Lumberton, NC, passed away at his home in Liberty, SC on Saturday, September 3, 2022. Richard was born in Lumberton on April 6, 1943 to the late Richard Bass and Marie Strickland Bass.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his sister, Alice Faye Bass, and his brothers, Charles Ray Bass and Randy Bass.
Richard is survived by his wife, Nancy Bass; his sons: Richard Thomas Bass and wife Vickie of Liberty, SC, Michael Ray Bass of Liberty, SC, Timothy Wayne Bass of Lumberton, NC, and Paul Bass and wife Rebecca of Supply, NC; his daughters, Cathy Hamilton and husband Zack of Easley, SC, and Kelly Bagwell and husband Chris of Travelers Rest, SC. Richard is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and special cousins, Jerry Strickland and wife Barbara and Bobby Strickland.
Richard worked as a textile mechanic for many years and served in the United States Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga during the Viet Nam war.
The family will receive friends and loved ones prior to the service on Saturday, September 10, 2022, from 1:00-2:00 PM at Floyd Memorial Chapel, 809 E. 5th Street in Lumberton, NC. Following the visitation, a funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at Meadowbrook Cemetery in Lumberton, NC.
