    Notes
    • Information from this branch comes from census records, old county histories, and information from Mary Weidman who now owns the "Bassett House" in Liverpool, New York.

From "Sweet's New Atlas of Onondagao, New York", 1874, George Bassett lived on the southwest corner of Sycamore and Second streets. George and Esther Bassett purchased property in Liverpool, Onondaga County, New York, around 1855.

Both Jared Bassett and his brother George Bassett, are listed as merchants in "Onondaga's Centennial". "During the prosperous period of salt industry many prominent salt manufacturers lived in and around Liverpool, including George and Jared Bassett." Also, "George Bassett, Cigar Manufacturer. Employs 6 hands. Established in 1872."

In a letter from George Bassett to FHB written 17 May 1900, he enclosed a photo made in Syracuse and said his brothers Deforest and Jared had interests at Salina, Clay, etc. He also gave his family line as from Jared and Eli. Also that a cousin Jared went to Chicago about 1844/5, a cousin David Bassett to Wisconsin and that he then had relatives in Henderson Harbor, New York.

      County Loses Oldest Supervisor, Bassett
Passed Away at Age of 92
Had Lived in Liverpool for 73 Years
George Bassett, the oldest supervisor of Onondaga County, and a resident of Liverpool for the past seventy-three years, died in that village Wednesday afternoon after a long period of declining health, due to his old age, 92 years.
Throughout his life Mr. Bassett was an ardent worker for the Republican ticket, but the only political office he had was that of supervisor for three terms, one in 1857, another in 1877 and a third in 1878.
He was born in Wayne county, January 8, 1817, and he lived there until he was 19 years of age, when he moved to Liverpool. In that village he went into the salt business, which then was beginning to advance to the supreme position it was to attain in that industry of the country. From the manufacture of salt he turned to the making o cigars, for which he bought a factory.
When old age began to come on, he settled from business and for several years he has lived with his wife and son, Henry L. Bassett, who are his only survivors. His wife was Hannah Adams, to whom he was married in the village of Fabius September 10, 1849.
The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock from his late home, and burial will be at the Liverpool Cemetery.
