MUNCIE, Ind., Feb. 9 ? Rev. Richard Bassett, arrived in Muncie today from his home near Kokomo, Ind. for the purpose of investigating the death of his daughter, Miss Minnie, aged 18, who died in Muncie three weeks ago, supposedly from the effects of a fall. The minister claims that his daughter has met with foul play and the Muncie police, together with a number of detectives, are working on a murder theory.
The Bassett girl, who was employed in Muncie, visited a girl friend in this city about three weeks ago. She retired as usual and was found unconscious upon the floor of her sleeping room the next morning. Members of the family claim that they were awakened at 5:30 o?clock. They were awakened by a dull thud, as if someone had fallen to the floor. They investigated the cause of the noise, and found Miss Bassett. Her skull was found to have been fractured, her chin broken and several teeth knocked out. Besides these injuries the body was terribly bruised.
The father maintains that injuries of that nature could not have been inflicted through a fall and insists that his daughter has in all probability been murdered. The statement of Miss Bassett?s father has aroused the citizens of the city, who cannot believe that such a brutal murder could take place in the city without having been discovered before this.
