Donald E. Bass, 71, of Grand Forks, ND and formerly of Midland, MI passed away Saturday, March 10, 2018 in Altru Hospital due to complications from emphysema.
Donald Eugene Bass was born January 10, 1947 in Alma, MI the son of Donald and Frances (Gilles) Bass. In 1965, he graduated from high school in Merrill, MI. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and served as a jet fighter aircraft mechanic on the F-4 Phantom. During his time in service, Donald met Emily J. Hamilton and they married on December 12, 1969. Recently, they celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary. Following his honorable discharged from military service, Donald and Emily moved to Midland, MI, where he began his carrier as a 4 color printing press operator at McKay?s Printing. Later, he attended a truck driving school in Fargo, ND and was employed with Altendorf Trucking in Minto, ND, until retiring in 2015.
He is survived by his wife, Emily; his sons, Davis (Shelly) Hamilton, East Grand Forks, MN and Dean Bass, Grand Forks, ND; a daughter, Alicia (Matt) Bullinger, Grand Forks, ND; 6 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Patricia Lyvere, Midland, MI and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Larry Lyvere.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 16, 2018 in St. Michael?s Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND.
Visitation: 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday with a 4:30 p.m. rosary service and 6:30 p.m. vigil service in the Historic Norman Funeral Home. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the liturgy in the church on Friday.
Burial: Calvary North Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND, in the spring.
Military Honors: Accorded, at the time of burial, by members of the American Legion Post 157, The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3817 and the Grand Forks Air Force Base Honor Guard.
