James O. Bass D.D.S. Jr.
James O. Bass Jr., D.D.S. (79) passed away on October 18, 2018 at Hope Hospice House after a brief illness. Jim graduated from Emory University Dental School in 1964. Upon graduation he practiced general dentistry in Fort Lauderdale, Florida for 6 years before deciding to pursue his degree in Endodontics from the University of Detroit Mercy. After obtaining his degree in Endodontics, Jim moved to Fort Myers where he opened the first Endodontic office in southwest Florida and practiced until he retired in 2008. Jim had a great love of the outdoors, pursuing his hobbies of duck hunting and fishing throughout his life. He also had many animals, including dogs, cats, and goats, that brought him much joy. Growing tropical fruit and orchids was another of his passions. Jim is survived by his loving family, wife Carol, son Dr. Ken Bass (Stephanie), granddaughter Dr. Rachel Bass Donovan (Dr. Ryan), great-granddaughters Payton and Harper Donovan, Daughter Lori Mallardi (Steve), grandson Alex Mallardi, and granddaughters Sarah and Charlotte Mallardi. A celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to: Golisano's Children's Hospital of Southwest Florida, c/o Melody Desilets, 9981 South Healthpark Drive, Fort Myers, Florida 33908.
