Nazik Bassett Hanna
Nazik Bassett Hanna, 93, of Huntington, W.Va., has fallen asleep in the Lord on April 4, 2006, at Cabell Huntington Hospital. On April 9, 1912, she was born in Kfeir, Lebanon, to the late Nicholas and Katra Bassett, and migrated to Huntington in 1947. Nazik and Moussa, her predeceased husband, owned and operated Hanna's Market for over 30 years. She was a vibrant, compassionate and generous woman who left and indelible impression on anyone she encountered. In addition to being a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and godmother, she was admired for her extraordinary wisdom, and considered an inspiration by many. She was also a faithful member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church. In addition to her late husband of 58 years, she was preceded in death by brothers Farris, Fred and Phillip Bassett; and sisters Emily and Elaine Bassett, Nouha Nassar and Asma Hodge. She is survived by her son, George (Gloria) of Huntington; grandson Bruce of Atlanta; grandson Greg (Jamie) of Falling Waters, W.Va.; granddaughter Stephanie of Charlotte; great-grandson Quentin Gregory, 9 months old, of Falling Waters; sister-in-law Josephine Bassett of Huntington; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, April 7, 2006 at 11 a.m. at St. George Greek Orthodox Church with Father Mark Elliott and Father John Dixon officiating. Visitation will be held at Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary on Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m., where The Trisagion will be held at 8 p.m. Expressions of sympathy can be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church.
