William Walter Bass
Mr. William Walter Bass, 66, of 1218 Bahama Road died Friday at his home following several months of declining health. Mr. Bass was born and raised in Elm City, the son of Mrs. Pearl Wells Bass of Rocky Mount and the late William B. Bass. A resident of Durham County for the past 35 years, he retired in 1987 as the Terminal Manager for McLean Trucking Company where he had worked for 41 years. Mr. Bass was a member of the Bahama Ruritan Club and had served in all of its leadership offices. He was of the Baptist Faith.Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Mrs. Docky Bass; two daughters, Pamela B. Weaver of Bahama and Fran B. Tucker of Durham; a sister, Mrs. Jeanette Joyner of Rock Spring, Georgia; two brothers, Milton Bass of Rocky Mount and Bobby Ray Bass of Elm City; and four grandchildren.A grave side service will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. in Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Reverend Ron Snyder officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Bahama Ruritan Club.The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 7 to 9 at Clements Funeral Home in Durham.Flowers are acceptable or memorials may be made to the Durham Rescue Mission, PO Box 11858, Durham, North Carolina 27701.
