November 9, 1929 ? May 21, 2021
Thelma Bass, our loving devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend to all whose lives she touched, transitioned on May 21, 2021.
Thelma, affectionately known as ?Nook?, was born November 9, 1929 in Georgetown Quitman, Georgia to the late Jerry and Aree Moore. Thelma left us while sleeping peacefully at Winchester Rehabilitation Center. She was in her 91st year.
Thelma married Humphrey Bass Sr. in Eufaula, Alabama in 1948. The two relocated to New Jersey in 1957 where the couple started new roots, purchased their home on Van Ness Place and raised their family. She was the beloved mother of fourteen children. Humphrey Jr., Henry, Jerry Deen, Levy, Diane, Ronald, Samuel, Larry, Shirley, Sharee, Mark, Danny, Bridget and Wonder were all blessed to call her their mother.
Thelma lived a full life as a wonderful mother and homemaker. She found enjoyment in attending church, outings with her closest friends and in her spare time, hosting her infamous Pokeno and card games. Known for her love of cooking; she had many favorite recipes that she whipped up with ease. Nook not only took care of her family, she was a kindhearted person, known for extending a helping hand to people around the neighborhood, especially those experiencing a difficult time in life. She welcomed all who were in need of a hot meal and a night's stay. Thelma kept an immaculate house, which could easily have over 20 people inside at once. Most importantly, Nook loved her family and instilled in her children strong values that have served her family very well.
Thelma was predeceased by her parents Jerry and Aree Moore; husband Humphrey Sr.; brothers Robert and Elis; sons Henry, Humphrey, Larry, Samuel, and Levy Bass, daughters Jerry Deen Coleman and Shirley Bass; son-in-law Gregory Coleman; and grandsons Lawrence ?Snoopy? Spady and Ladon Bass.
Thelma leaves to cherish her loving memories her children Diane Bass-Jackson, Ronald, Sharee, Mark (Cheryl), Danny Bass (Robin), Bridget Bass-Macklin (Michael), Wonder Bass-Bey; fifty-two grandchildren; seventy great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren; as well as a plethora of friends and associates.
Thelma will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
