Arm of Law Everywhere, Youth Finds
Earl W. Bassett, 18, 726 South Winnebago Street, ran right into trouble Friday.
The youth ducked down an alley near West State and North Winnebago Streets and almost ran into Patrolman Richard Tallmadge, who was searching the alley for a man wanted for shoplifting.
Tallmadge noticed the youth was carrying a bulky object wrapped in his coat. The officer stopped Bassett and found that the youth was hiding an electric iron. The item had just been shoplifted from the Badger Paint company store, 511 West State Street.
Bassett was booked on a petty larceny charge.
