Marjorie Lou (Bell) Bassett passed away September 1, 2014 in Springfield, OR from cancer. Marjorie Lou (Bell) Bassett was born in 1933, in El Paso, Texas, to James Homer and Creola Bell. She married Jerry Freeman Bassett in Lubbock, Texas, in 1953. She lived in the El Paso, Texas and Las Cruces, New Mexico, area until high school when she moved with her family to Idalou, Texas, where she graduated from high school. She attended college in Abilene, Texas, San Bernardino, California, and received a Bachelor of Science degree in secretarial management from San Diego State College. Post graduate work was done at the University of Oregon, Eugene, where she received her elementary teaching certificate. She taught in elementary school both full-time and as a substitute teacher in California and Oregon; taught at Trend Business College; and retired from the registrar's office at the University of Oregon where she worked as a clerk. She enjoyed traveling, reading, gardening, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and teaching children's Bible classes. She was a member of the Oregon Genealogical Society as well as a long-time member of the Church of Christ meeting on Coburg Road in Eugene. She is survived by her husband, two sons, Darrell Freeman Bassett and Gregory James Bassett, and a daughter Leanna Cymbala; a brother, Ed Bell; five grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Coburg Road Church of Christ, 1005 Coburg Rd., Eugene, OR 97401
