Clyde H. Kile
CHANUTE - Clyde H. Kile, 85, of Chanute died Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at his home.
He was born April 30, 1919, in Parsons to Ary E. and Hazel (Larsen) Bass. He was raised by his mother and stepfather in Parsons and attended Parsons High School. He also attended Parsons Junior College.
He married Genevieve M. Shepard on Oct. 17, 1948, in Parsons. She preceded him in death on May 5, 2001.
He entered the U.S. Marine Corps on March 2, 1942, and served in World War II. He was discharged from the active duty as a corporal on March 1, 1946, and was transferred to the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. He served in the Reserve until March 1, 1949. He then joined the Kansas Army National Guard. He was called up for active duty with the National Guard on Oct. 1, 1950, through January 1952. During this time he was promoted to sergeant. He received the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, a Presidential Unit Citation, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with two Bronze Stars, the World War II Victory Medal and the Navy Commendation Medal.
He ran his own upholstery business and did construction for several years. He then went to work for Neosho County as a heavy equipment operator and quarry foreman. He retired from there in 1984.
He was a member of Cedar Lodge No. 103, Fort Scott Consistory, and the Mirza Shrine Temple in Pittsburg. He was a 32nd degree Mason. He was a charter member of M.G. Club of the Mirza Shrine and served as past president. He was also a member of the Provost Guard (motorcycle) and served as past president. He was also a member of First Christian Church and a lifetime member of the Cecil J. Meeker Post No. 1654, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Boerstler-May Post No. 170 of the American Legion. He enjoyed cars and driving his MG in parades.
He served as mayor of Chanute in 1973.
Survivors are a daughter, Cindy Tichenor of Chanute; a son, Brad Kile of Chanute; a grandson, Christopher Tichenor of Norfolk, Va.; a great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Christian Church with Jean Vaughn officiating. A graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Fort Scott National Cemetery in Fort Scott.
Memorials may be made to Shriners Crippled Children's Hospital and may be left at Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel in Chanute.
