Eugene Francis Bassett Sr.
BOSCAWEN ? Eugene Francis Bassett Sr., 94, of Boscawen, passed away at the Concord Hospital Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017, after a brief illness. He was born in Boscawen to Edward and Katherine (Lynch) Bassett in the spring of 1923. Eugene attended the local school system and was a 1941 graduate of the Penacook High School.
After graduating, Eugene joined the United States Army and served during World War II. During his service, he was stationed in France with the Army Corp of Engineers where he helped with building and repair of infrastructure to support war and rebuilding efforts. Eugene returned to Boscawen and began a career at the Cormier Hosiery and ended his working career with the Cabot Hosiery Company where he retired as a factory supervisor.
Eugene was a member of the American Legion Post 31 in Penacook, as well as being a member of the Local VFW. In his retirement, he became interested in and loved yard sales; he would have his own as well as go traveling to the other yard sales around the neighborhood.
Eugene was predeceased by his a son, Eugene F. Bassett Jr. in 2011; his brothers, John Bernie Bassett and Raymond Bassett. He is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years, Lydia Witcher Bassett of Boscawen; his son, Edward Bassett and his wife, Tammy of Penacook; his three daughters, Susan Dukette and her husband, Cliff of Boscawen, Sandra Alexander and her husband, Charles of Coral Springs, Fla. and Diana Shaeffer and her husband, Jack of Naperville, Ill.; his brother, Maurice Bassett of Pennsylvania; his sister, Katherine Foote of Penacook; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
There will be a visitation on Friday, Dec. 29, from 1 to 2 p.m. with a funeral service following at 2 p.m. at the Wendell J. Butt Funeral Home, 42 Washington St., Penacook. Burial will immediately follow in the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetary in Boscawen.
