Donald Bass
Attorney Donald Bass, formerly of Midlothian, Va., and most recently of Mitchellville, Md., passed away Saturday, February 27, 2016. He was son of the late Lee and Nora Bass in Granville County, N.C. He was reared from a very early age by the late John S. and Beatrice S. Hayes in Midlothian, Va. He was a graduate of Virginia Union University in Richmond and he received a Juris Doctorate degree from Howard University School of Law in Washington, D.C. He retired as the Assistant Chief Counsel with the United States Department of Health and Human Services. Donald was a certified mediator and a licensed real estate salesperson. He was a member of the bar in the District of Columbia and Pennsylvania. He was also admitted to practice before the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia and the Ninth Circuits. He is survived by his devoted daughter, Donalyn E. Bass; goddaughter, Nandi W. Baccus; sisters, Deanie Burgess and Ada Steed of New York, N.Y., L. Maxine Brown of Broadnax, Va. and Ruth Suitt of Durham, N.C.; sisters-in-law, Dr. Evora Jones (Dr. William C.) and Mittie Bass; brother-in-law, Timothy Williams (Lora); many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Family will receive friends Friday, March 11, 2016, at First Baptist Church of Glenarden, 3600 Brightseat Rd., Landover, Md., from 11 a.m. until time of service at 12 noon. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Donald's name are encouraged to the American Heart Association at www.heart.org.
