Alphonse E. Bassett, Boscawen

BOSCAWEN - Alphonse E. Bassett, 81, died Sunday at Genesis-Pleasant View Nursing home after a long illness. He was born in Penacock, the son of Joseph and Leontine (Beaduet) Bassett. He was a lifelong resident of the Penacook area. He graduated from Penacook High School in 1940. Bassett served with the Marines in the Marshall Islands during World War II. He worked at the Brezner Tannery in Penacook for many years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 31, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the AARP. Survivors include a son, Alan Bassett of Northfield; four daughters, Pamela McKee and Rhonda Bassett, both of Concord, Kellie Cook of Boscawen and Kathleen Bassett of Tucson, Ariz.; two grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. His parents, two brothers, Emery Bassett and Joseph, and a sister, Mandy Blodgett, died previously. Calling hours will not be held. Graveside services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Pine Grove Cemetery in Boscawen. The Rev. W. Timothy Thibeault, pastor of the Immaculate Conception Church, will officiate. Wendell J. Butt Funeral Home in Penacook is in charge of arrangements.
