Betty Marie Bassett, daughter of James Corby and Margaret Ann (McLean) Bassett, was born 12 May 1921 in Woodstock, Ontario, Canada. She died 10 Dec 1994 in Kitchener, Ontario. She married (1) John (Jack) Lockwood Galbraith, son of William and Elsie (Lockwood) Galbraith, on 21 Feb 1945 in Woodstock, Ontario. She married (2) Harry Philip Wisswell, son of Frederick and Virginia (Hauck) Wisswell, about 1988 in Kitchener, Ontario.
Jack was born in the little white house beside the railroad tracks in Appin, Ontario. He served in the Canadian Navy during World War II. Jack, his brother Les and cousin Wally Lockwood all went to Halifax at the same time. They spent a great deal of time with Margaret and Merce who lived in Halifax at 13 Blink Bonnie Terrace. Margaret was Wally's sister, and an aunt to Les and Jack.
Jack and Betty were married in Woodstock while on leave. At the time, they were both stationed in St. Hyacinthe, Quebec. They were moved back to Halifax just before VE Day, where they lived with Marg and Merce awaiting their discharge from the navy. Betty had been the Secretary to Admiral Murray, who was apparently court martialled over the VE Day riots in Halifax.
Harry was a guard captain at the Industrial Farm in Burwash and retired in 1974 after 25 years of service. He was a member of St. Mary's Church in Ketchener, Ontario. Harry's first wife was Florence, who died in 1986. Harry died at the age of 84 years after a lengthy illness and was cremated.
