Bill Bass
September 23, 1929 ? April 22, 2026
Bill Bass, 96, of Archdale, passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2026. He was born on September 23, 1929 in Nash county, North Carolina, to the late Bollie Nick Bass and Mary Frances Sykes Bass.
Bill attended Greensboro Senior High School. He joined the Army in February 1951, serving in Germany during the Korean War. On June 1, 1951, he married the love of his life, Hilda Gean Langley, in Chesterfield, South Carolina, and together they shared a wonderful life.
A devoted follower of Christ, Bill was a faithful member of several Friends Meetings throughout his life, including Spring Garden and Battle Forest in Greensboro, and Cedar Square in Archdale. He served his church communities in many roles over the years ? as usher, elder, youth leader and member of different committees ? always with a humble heart and a spirit of service. Later in life, he attended Trinity Heights Wesleyan Church in Archdale.
Bill worked at MaybeBell as a form setter for concrete forms used in large building construction. Later he worked in residential construction. Outside of work and church, Bill used his construction talents helping family and friends. He spent countless hours gardening, woodworking, fixing whatever broke and attending grandchildren and then great grandchildren?s games and activities. He loved spending time with his family, sharing his gift of storytelling.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 74 years; his parents; and brothers JW Bass, Maurice Bass, Clinton Bass, and Earl Bass. Bill is survived by his sister Ila Purgason and brother Pete Bass; daughters Debbi (Chuck) Harris and Susan (Bill) Hedrick. He was affectionately known as ?Pawpaw? to his grandchildren: Josh (Shelly) Harris, April (Dave) Edwards, Kim (David) Lehmann, Thomas (Lynne Margaret) Hedrick, Keevy (Ben) Fuller and Charity (John) McDaris. And nineteen great-grandchildren: Emerson, Kennedy, Charleigh, Harrison, Elijah, Cash, Langley, Audrey, Cayden, Caleb, Maddy, Ava, Avett, Adlynn, Maddox, Emerlyn, Emilliah, Mikayla and Judah. He also leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews who will forever hold his memory close.
Bill will be remembered for his unwavering faith, kindness, and deep love for his family who he prayed for daily, calling each one by name. His legacy of service and faithfulness will continue to inspire all who knew him.
A Celebration of Bill and Hilda?s lives will be 6:00 pm Friday, May 29, 2026 at CBC Life Center, 4124 Johnson St., High Point, NC., officiating Rev. Crawford Crenshaw. A time of fellowship and food will follow the service.
