Joseph D. Bessette
JOSEPH D. BESSETTE COLCHESTER — Joseph D. Bessette, 84, a longtime resident of Colchester, died Thursday, June 28, 2001, in Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington after a short illness. He was born in Colchester on March 27, 1917, the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Patoria) Bessette. He attended Colchester schools. Joseph was married in 1937 to the former Edna Gordon, who predeceased him Aug. 12, 1983. He was employed with the E.B. & A.C. Whiting Co. in Burlington for 45 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. Joseph is survived by three children and their spouses, Joseph and Joyce Bessette of Colchester, Rose and Roger Wolcott of Enosburg Falls, and Jean and Hugh Raymond of Georgia, Vt.; four grandchildren, Mark Abell, Lori Collins, Craig Bessette, and Carrie Raymond; three great-grandchildren, Cory Abell, Cassie Collins, and Cody Gonzales; three brothers, Edward Bessette of Colchester, Robert Bessette of Milton, and Raymond Bessette and his wife, Penny, of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; three sisters, Florence Wolcott of Milton, Elizabeth Bessette of Burlington, and Helen Lavee of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and several nieces, nephews, and brothers-in-law. He was predeceased by three brothers, John, George and Victor, and two sisters, Hazel Raymond and Isabell Griffith. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, June 30, at 11 a.m. in Holy Cross Catholic Church in Colchester. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery in Burlington. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Vermont Affiliate Inc., 77 Hegeman Ave., Colchester, Vt. 05446. Visiting hours will be Friday, June 29, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the LaVigne Funeral Home Inc., 132 Main St., Winooski.

COLCHESTER — BESSETTE, Joseph D. Bessette — A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday, June 30, 2001, at 11 a.m. in Holy Cross Catholic Church in Colchester by the Rev. Roger Charbonneau. The readings were proclaimed by Sister Carmen Proulx. Music was provided by Mary O’Kane. The offertory gifts were presented by Joseph Bessette and his wife, Joyce, Craig Bessette and Stacy Turner. Interment was in Lakeview Cemetery with Father Charbonneau offering committal prayers Bearers were Craig Bessette, Mark Abell, Roger Wolcott, Hugh Raymond, Carrie Raymond and Lori Collins. Arrangements were by the LaVigne Funeral Home, Winooski.
