GEORGE “THE MOUNTAIN MAN” BESSETTE SR GRANDE ISLE - George “The MountainMan” Bessette Sr., 80, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, March 18, 2000, inFanny Allen Health Care in Burlington. He was born Feb. 22, 1920, inColchester, the son of Joseph and Mary (Peturia) Bessette. George was aretired farmer and had also retired from the Essex Junction School District.He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially justbeing in the mountains of Vermont breathing the fresh, crisp air. He enjoyedplaying the bones and the harmonica, gardening, and making moonshine. Heleaves his wife, Theresa; his son George “Butch” Bessette Jr. and his wife,Maureen; his daugher Susan Wright; his sisters, Helen Lavee, Betty Bessetteand Florence Wolcott; his brothers, Joseph Jr., Edward, Robert and Raymond;grandchildren, Rebecca Lynne Bessette, Angel Mulliss, and Debbie, Donna,David and Dianne Lang; and many nieces and nephews; as well as many closefriends. He was predeceased by two brothers; Victor and John Bessette; andtwo sisters, Hazel Bessette and Isabelle Griffiths. Visiting hours areWednesday in the St. Rose of Lima Parish Hall in South Hero from 9 a.m. to11 a.m. A funeral Mass will follow in the church at 11 a.m. Those wishingmay send memorial contributions to the Grande Isle Rescue Squad.Arrangements are by the Elmwood-Meunier Funeral Home, Burlington.
