Bass Jr., former Oklahoma State A&M College regent and Durant cotton ginner, died Tuesday in a Bryan County hospital after a brief illness. He was 65. Graveside funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Highland Cemetery in Durant directed by Helmes Funeral Home. Bass was an OSU regent from 1957 until 1966. In 1905 he became the first Oklahoman ever to win the Unites State Ginner of the Year Award. He was honored for his leadership in the Oklahoma Cotton Ginners Association. Bass became a ginner in 1956 and had been a cotton buyer since 1933. He was past-president of the Durant Chamber of Commerce. Survivors include his wife, Bronaugh, a daughter, Susanne Baine, Seminole; a son, Ken, McAlcester; a brother, Clark, McAlester, and two sisters, Mrs. MaryJane McPherson, Durant, and Mrs. Dorothy Force, Guthrie.
